# Authentication

Startbutton uses two types of API keys, depending on the endpoint you're calling:

| Key type     | Used for                                                                                                       | Header format                      |
| ------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------- |
| Public key   | Collection-type endpoints (Accept Payments, all Server-to-Server Integration methods except Card)              | `Authorization: Bearer PUBLIC_KEY` |
| Secret key   | Payout, wallet, and account-management endpoints (Transfer, Get Wallet Balance, Subscriptions, Re-charge Card) | `Authorization: Bearer SECRET_KEY` |
| Content-type |                                                                                                                | `application/json`                 |

Each endpoint's reference page states which key type it requires. Both keys are available from **Settings → API Keys** on your Startbutton dashboard.
